Shift Control Media’s “Happiness Factory” Games Honored With Webby Award Nomination

nominee_black_high.jpg Greenwich, CT – April 10, 2008 – We’d like to thank the academy— the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, that is. They’ve honored Shift Control Media’s “Happiness Factory” online games, developed for Coca-Cola, with a Webby Award nomination in the category of Interactive Advertising—Games and Applications.

Winners of the Webby’s, which were dubbed “the Oscars of the Internet” by The New York Times, will be announced on May 6, 2008 and honored at a gala in New York on June 10th. The Webbys are the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, including websites, interactive advertising, online film and video and mobile websites. They’re presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.

In addition to being up for a Webby, all nominees are also entered in the awards program’s People Voice Awards, which are sponsored by Nokia. Through May 1st, online fans around the world can cast their own votes for their favorite nominees at http://pv.webbyawards.com.

The four original games created by Shift Control are incorporated into Coke’s “Happiness Factory” web site as part a larger digital environment created by AKQA. The agency built the site around Coke’s fanciful “Happiness Factory” animated Super Bowl TV spot, which first aired in 2007.

The agency’s elaboration of the TV ad for interactive media envisioned a world where applying for a job at the factory, and playing the part of the workers in this fantasy environment, comes to life on the site. To play the “Happiness Factory” games, go to http://www.coca-cola.com/HF/index.jsp.

“Our goal on this project was to create games that had the same visual richness as the original TV commercials, while offering a nice mix of accessibility and replay value,” says Shift Control President and CEO Tim Zuckert. “We’re thrilled that the Webby jury recognized this accomplishment by nominating the games for a Webby Award. Its validation such as this that makes us even more determined to help other marketers and media brands see the inherent value of games as engaging and compelling brand-building tools.”
